The Head of Local Government Service, Ing Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has admonished Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to make use of Information Officers assigned to their assemblies.
The Head of Service made the admonition when the Minister of Information Hon Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah paid an official visit to him at his office on Friday, 12th May, 2023.
The Head of Service used the meeting to direct Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to resource and tap into the experience and service of Information Officers in the MMDAs.
Nana Ato Arthur entreated Information Officers not to involve themselves in partisan politics and deliver their mandated services to the assemblies.
On his part, the Minister of Information, Hon. Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah called on Information Officers not to see themselves as protocol officers but as communication managers of the Assemblies.
He therefore urged them to design Communication plans for dissemination of the programmes, projects and activities of the assembly.
RIGHT TO INFORMATION (RTI) OFFICERS
Hon Oppong Nkrumah called on the Assemblies to resource the newly posted Right to Information Officers to enable the officers to carry out their activities effectively.
He said there has been a very significant increase in requests for information since passage of the RTI law hence the need to resource the unit to deliver on its mandate.
Since refusal to provide information requested under the RTI law has legal ramifications, he urged the MMDAs to help the RTI Officers to provide the needed information which were not exempted information.
Nana Ato assured the Minister that the RTI Officers posted to the various assemblies will be resourced adequately to deliver on their mandate.
