PARTNER LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE IN USING DIGITALISATION FOR REVENUE MOBILISATION – HEAD OF SERVICE TO JICA

Accra – Thursday, May 11, 2023: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has implored the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide intensive capacity building on digitalisation for staff of the Local Government Service (LGS).

Dr. Arthur made the appeal when some officials from JICA paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra on Thursday, 11th May, 2023.

In his welcome address, the Head of Service expressed appreciation to JICA for the various technical supports they provide to the LGS and appealed for more support for the Service in the area of digitalisation particarly to help increase revenue mobilisation in the Metropolitan Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs).He said digitalisation was one of the avenues government seeks to capitalize on to increase economy in the country.

Other areas Dr. Arthur revealed worthy of attention also include transformational leadership and agricultural technology for which he expressed optimism in the support JICA can provide on it’s best practices.

Dr. Arthur luaded the JICA knowledge co-creation programme which has impacted positively in records keeping in the LGS and for the many programmes undertaken in Ghana as a development partner.

The Chief representative of JICA, Suzuki Momoko, also enumerated some available technical support programmes provided by JICA in the areas of health, education, agriculture and others which she said would equally benefit the Service. She assured that JICA and the Japanese government will continue to support the LGS and Ghana with adequate technical supports as long as development is concerning.

Suzuki Momoko said she had been to Ghana since March this year.
