OHLGS – Thursday March 22, 2018: The Management of the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) met consultants working to mainstream gender into the GIZ assisted Support for Decentralisation Reforms (SfDR) programme. The SfDR programme is aimed at promoting good governance in the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
The deliberations stressed on the need to ensure the selection of gender desk officers for MMDAs who have good appreciation of gender issues and their implications for planning and budgeting. This was critical to secure a gender-responsive and inclusive local government budgeting, planning and expenditure processes. Another issue that came to light was the need to intensify advocacy and create awareness on gender-based issues. The consultants suggested proactive measures by the various MMDAs on gender related issues.
Support for Decentralisation Reforms (SfDR) is a bilateral development programme of the Republic of Ghana and the Federal Republic of Germany, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and GIZ.
