ACCRA-Friday November 3, 2017: The Management of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) organised a send-off ceremony for one of its selfless Technical Advisor, Mr Kyaw Htwe Myiang who had successfully ended his working contract with the OHLGS under several DANIDA funded programmes.
Key officers of the OHLGS were joined by friends, working colleagues and well-wishers of Mr Myiang and his wife at a ceremony to honour and bid him farewell. Mr Myiang has served in the capacity as a Technical Advisor at the Local Government Service for the past 12 years. He was the Technical Advisor on the Transport Sector Programme support II and the Local Service Delivery and Governance Programme funded by DANIDA in 2006. He was later re-engaged to provide Technical Advisory Services for the DANIDA sponsored Rights to Services and Good Governance Programme from 2015 to 2018.
During his stay in the country and at the OHLGS, Mr Myaing played a pivotal role in Ghana’s decentralisation and local governance agenda leading to significant achievements including the implementation of the LI 1961 which saw the transfer of staff of the Civil Service to the Local Government Service and the establishment of departments of the Assemblies. Others contributions included, the establishment and implementation of the District Development Facility, Construction of the office building of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) as well as the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC).
Mr Myiang was very instrumental in the creation of the LGS Logo and the formulation of its Motto, Vision and Mission. He also supported in the development and implementation of the LGS Protocols and Manual, Local Governance Act 2016 (ACT 936) and the LGS Communication Strategy among others.
Colleagues and friends who took turns to show gratitude to Mr. Myiang described him as a hardworking, dedicated and selfless Technical Advisor who brought to bear on the Service lot of expertise and competence.
The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr Nana Ato Arthur on behalf of management and staff of the LGS was thankful to Mr Myiang for his expertise and said the Service would not hesitate to consult him whenever his support was needed.
