Tamale – Monday February 13- Friday February 17, 2023: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) commenced a stakeholder review workshop on its Performance Contract (PC) designed for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Sector.

The one-week review workshop was organised for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDSs) to discuss and make inputs on the proposed 2023 Key Performance Indicators for incorporation into their activities.

The Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur who graced the third series of the review workshop in Tamale on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Care Ghana International for their continuous financial and technical support towards the implementation of the LGS Performance Management System (PMS).  He was optimistic that the collaboration would significantly contribute to the long-term achievements of the Service. He admonished MMDCEs/ MMDCDs to be committed and innovative to ensure excellent performance with the designed KPIs for 2023.  

He said as Political and Administrative Heads at the local level, their measurement in performance is based on the set indicators. However, there is the need to design pragmatic measures to effectively articulate the indicators and manage local resources to achieve desired results in their performance.

The Northern Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, who delivered the speech on behalf of the Regional Minister, Hon Shani Alhassan Shaibu, expressed appreciation to Management of the OHLGS and urged all MMDCEs and MMDCDs to deliver their mandate in line with the indicators set and ensure they live up to expectation. He also admonished them to identify areas they under performed and improve upon them for improved service delivery in the respective Assemblies for the year 2023.

The first four (4) of the five (5) series of the review workshop was organised in Wa and Tamale with the last in the Ashanti Region. The remaining series of the review workshop will be organised in Eastern and Central Regions respectively.

Present at the Sensitisation workshop were the Chief Director of the OHLGS, Ms. Felicia Dapaah, and some representatives from Care International and USAID.
