Bibiani – 28th February, 2017: The Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) joined the Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly – Western Region and other dignitaries at a ceremony to officially announce the commencement of a European Union (EU) – Grant Support Project to promote local economic development. Guests at the occasion were received by the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr. John Nana Owoo while the Director for Policy Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring and Evaluation at the OHLGS, Mr. Greggory Addah, launched the project on behalf of the Head of Service.
In delivering the welcome address, Mr. Owoo lauded the EU for the assistance and indicated that, the technical and financial support provided will go a long way to enhance service delivery. Mr. Addah who launched the project advised officers of the Assembly to keep to the same conviction, resolve and enthusiasm used to secure the grant in order to ensure the successful implementation of the project. He urged officers of the Assembly to work closely with the Planning and Co-ordinating Unit of the Regional Co-ordinating Council in the area of monitoring and evaluation.
The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly has secured a three-year European Union (EU) grant of €537,000 to enhance capacities of staff of the Assembly to effectively mobilise local resources and promote local economic development for increased growth and job creation in the District.
Under this project, members of the Assembly’s Planning Co-ordinating Unit and Revenue Collectors will be trained to acquire relevant skills and information in revenue management as well as be provided with equipment to effectively track revenue data in the District. Other direct beneficiaries of the project include, selected Farmer Based Organisations (FBOs), actors along the agriculture value chain, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), market women and the youth among others.
The Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly becomes one of the two Assemblies to benefit from this EU support. A similar project is currently ongoing at the Adentan Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.
