PRESS RELEASE – LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE IS NOT RECRUITING

ACCRA-22nd September, 2016: The attention of the Head of the Local Government Service has been drawn to an article that has gained wide circulation on social media that “Local government services forms” are out for persons interested in job placement with the Service to purchase from Ghana Publishing Company (Assembly Press). The message indicated that completed forms and other attachments should be submitted at the Secretariat for recruitment. The message further indicated that the “Local Government Service Secretariat recruits Civil Servants for the District Assemblies and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies”.

The Local Government Service Secretariat wishes to inform the general public that, no such information has been issued and that the said information on the social media should be disregarded. Again, in the Public Service there is no such thing as “Local government services form”. There is only a Public Services Commission (PSC) Form 2 which is completed by persons seeking employment in the Ghana Public Service (Civil and Local Government Services inclusive). Additionally, the content of the message is inconsistent with the Local Government Service’s mandate as the Service does not recruit for Central Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

It must be noted that, much as the Local Government Service Secretariat (LGSS) recruits staff with clearance from the Ministry of Finance when there are gaps, the LGSS is only responsible for the recruitment of staff for the Secretariat, the Regional Co-ordinating Councils, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and their Sub-structures and not Central Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The public is hereby informed by this Press Statement that, there are laid down processes and procedures which all Public Service Institutions including the Local Government Service must adhere to in the event of recruitment. The Service wishes to assure the general public that when such opportunities turn up, the processes and procedures will be followed and the general public will be duly informed. END
