SHARE BEST PRACTICES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION – HEAD OF SERVICE TO MMDAs

VARIOUS- Wednesday, 17th to Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024: The Head of the Local Government Service (LGS),  Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has beseeched Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to share knowledge and experience, especially in best practices of Local Government Administration.

He made the call when he opened a one (1) day workshop at the conference room of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kumasi. The workshop was organized by the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) in partnership with the German Ministry for Development and Economic Cooperation (BMZ) for the outstanding four (4) MMDAs on the piloted Voluntary Local Review (VLR) Project.

The Head of Service used the platform to highlight the importance of the project. These, he said included helping MMDAs to understand the different ways to present SDG- relevant information and data, address MMDAs-specific questions on measurement and data collection as well as to discuss the implications of progress monitoring. He therefore prayed the Nine (9) selected MMDAs to make the knowledge gained from these workshops very useful because the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) serves as a catalyst for the Voluntary National Review (VNR).

He revealed that the workshop was ultimately aimed at strengthening MMDAs to effectively deliver their mandate towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur acknowledged the efforts made by the Engagement Global, Service Agency for Communities in One World (SKEW) and the Germa Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu) and expressed the appreciation of the Ghana Government to the German Team.

The same workshop and onsite meetings were replicated at Asunafo South District, Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District and Cape Coast Metropolitan Assemblies with presentation from the project team led by, Sebastian Ohlmeyer, a senior project manager, SKEW.
