The 1st Ordinary Meeting of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) Staff Welfare Association was held on Thursday 19th January, 2017 in accordance with the provisions of the Association’s constitution. The purpose of the meeting was to update members on the state of affairs of the association and to introduce newly transferred staff to the OHLGS to the association. It was also to present to members a proposed activity plan for the year 2017 for adoption. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Director, Mr Joseph Dasanah who commended members for keeping faith with the welfare association through their contributions. Present at the meeting was the entire membership of the OHLGS staff.
The Chairman of the Association’s Executive Committee, Mr. Joseph Ankamah updated members on the achievements and the financial position of the Welfare Association. He indicated the need to elect a new executive body as the term of office of the current executive body has elapsed as per the constitution. He underscored the need to constitute some sub-committees of the Executive Committee to ensure the smooth running of the association. According to him, the sub-committees to be constituted included Finance and Investment; Programmes, Events and Publicity; and Legal Sub-committees. He presented to members a proposed activity plan for the year 2017 comprising the 1st and 2nd Ordinary Meetings, Clean-Up Exercise, Blood Donation Exercise, Health Walk and Fun Games.
Members unanimously agreed that the current executive body should continue to hold office for an additional year to complete two full terms. The mandate of the current executive body was therefore renewed for one year after which elections would be conducted. Nominations were opened and votes casted for the vacant vice chairperson’s position. Nominations were also made for the positions of trustees and for the membership of the sub-committees.
The Chief Director, Mr Joseph Dasanah in his closing remarks urged members to note that they have elected the executives and therefore must give them the necessary support by cooperating with them to enable them deliver as expected.
